Eurovision Winners

Eurovision Song Contest (Eurovision Song Contest; Concours Eurovision de la chanson) is a pop song contest among the member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The EBU is also the owner of all intellectual property produced during the competition.

In total, 64 Eurovision Song Contests have been held throughout history and 67 songs have won. The winner of the contest is declared the song with the highest number of points given by other Eurovision participating countries. Currently, there is a mixed system of voting: 50 % of the jury, 50 % of the viewers. One cannot vote for a representative of his country, the only exception is the first contest in 1956, when the winner was the Swiss representative Liz Assia with the song "Refrain", who could be voted for by the jury of his country.

In the history of Eurovision, only once have several songs been declared winners. This happened in 1969, when the winners were the representatives of Spain iconSpain, Great Britain, France iconFrance and the Netherlands iconNetherlands. All of them scored 18 points each. In 1991, a similar situation occurred: Sweden iconSweden and France iconFrance scored 146 points each, but Sweden iconSweden's representative Carola was declared the winner of the contest on additional indicators.

For many performers, winning Eurovision was the beginning of their creative careers and the crowning glory of their popularity. For example, ABBA became world famous after their victory in 1974, and the career of singer Celine Dion gained momentum after her victory at the competition in 1988. At the time, the Canadian singer represented Switzerland iconSwitzerland.
