Kathmandu, city, capital of Nepal, in the focal piece of the nation. Likewise called Katmandu, the city is arranged in a fruitful swamp (the Valley of Nepal) in the southern Himalayas, at a height of around 1220 m (around 4000 ft), close to the conjunction of the Baghmati and Vishnumati streams. It is the mountain realm’s biggest city and its boss financial, regulatory, and social focus. A parkway stretches out north to Lhasa, in Tibet, and another street joins Kathmandu with Raxaul, a rail focus in India. Focal points in Kathmandu incorporate the detailed imperial royal residence and the white-domed Bodhnath Stupa, a holy place loved by Tibetan Buddhists. Only west of the city is Swayambhunath Temple, likewise a significant Buddhist site. The city is the site of Tribhuvan University (1959) and the National Museum of Nepal.
